Nuclear energy?
What is your take on nuclear energy?
I am all for alternate fuels but am not sure of nuclear energy because I live in Utah and it is my backyard that all the waste will go. Italy is trying to dump their waste here in Utah.
I just want to get peoples responses and how are we to handle all that waste on our freeways and highways?

America currently has 104 nuclear power plants, and operating those plants gives us roughly 20% of our yearly electricity needs. By operating those plants instead of conventional ones, we save ourselves from putting into the atmosphere additional carbon emissions that equal the total of all automobile emissions in the country.
Imagine if we had 520 nuclear power plants in this country, which could produce all of our energy needs. There would be little to no need for conventional power plants which pollute the environment, we would decrease the carbon emissions in this country by over 83%, and everybody would be happy.
The only problem would be where to store the waste. Why not build a secure facility underground in a stable location (more stable than Yucca Mountain)? It seems to me that if people were really as serious about pollution and the environment as they said they were, this would be almost a no-brainer way of achieving their goals.

@HeavyM — More stable than Yucca Mountain? How do you know Yucca Mountain is NOT stable? The project has not been allowed to go through the licensing process, which would have uncovered any deficiencies if they exist. You rely on anti-nuke propaganda coming out of the mouth of Harry Reid, who has used Yucca Mountain as his campaign plank for decades — before any scientific or geological research was even done, I might add.
