Is anyone else somewhat glad that gas is so expensive?

I think that it is a good thing that gas is getting expensive because now people will actually start demanding an alternate energy fuel.

There are going to be some growing pain as we transition, but so be it. There would have been no way to make the transition if gas was still $ 0.50 a gallon.

It’s time we stopped buying gas and funding the same governments that fund Hezbollah, Hamas, and Sunni insurgent groups.

  1. Agreed. It would be one thing if gas could be 50 cents per gallon for eons, but obviously there’s no way that could happen. Maintaining civilization ought to be priority one and transitioning to a comprehensive energy policy using a wide variety of sources is how we’re going to be able to keep growing enough food for everyone, let alone maintaining our economy.

Note that it’s not just people demanding alternatives, it’s that alternatives are now becoming economical. People just want the cheapest energy possible. Companies are looking up and figuring out that with enough R&D alternative energies are going to be economically viable.

Trim, you’re correct that our two biggest exporters are Canada and Mexico (not a majority, but they are the biggest exporters). However, by demanding their oil they can’t sell to other countries who wind up funding Middle East nationalized oil companies.
