This lizard does this every day and really seems to like it. Sometimes he gets thrown off and is right back up there again. We have thousands of them, they eat lots of bugs.

ANOLIS CAROLINENSIS has been dropping in population due to other sub-species.

Wind Turbine Ice Throw

June 27th, 2010 admin Posted in Tech No Comments »

betterplanWI asked:

This video filmed by a resident of Byron Wisconsin who lives inside of the wind farm there. He was out plowing his driveway when he saw a piece of ice the size of a bedsheet come from the turbine.

He got his video camera and filmed the turbine. Theres no flying ice in this video, but the turbine blades clearly have ice and snow on the blades- except for the one where the big chunk fell off.

Residents inside this industrial wind farm in Fond du Lac County were told ice throw from turbine blades isn't a problem. They were told if ice forms on the blades, the turbine automatically shuts down. People who are spending their first winter in the wind farm tell another story.

This was back in 2004, when only one turbine was installed just west of Bowling Green, OH. There are now four units installed due to the good production and success of the site.

Windmill/Wind Turbine Explosion

May 3rd, 2010 admin Posted in Tech 23 Comments »

Kourinsu asked:

The braking mechanism that limits the speed of the wind turbine broke during a storm in Denmark. This was the outcome. 02/22-2008.

Bonus info:

-The tower of the mill was 60m high
-Wind speed was probably around 30 m/s
-You can see a truck at the base of the mill, but nobody was hurt. The mill had been evacuated 400m in each direction.

VOAvideo asked:

Wind power is one of the fastest growing forms of alternative energy in the world. More and more, wind power mills are seen in the countryside, in large wind farms and for the most part, away from city life. But a new form of wind power is now designed to work in an urban environment. VOA producer Zulima Palacio has the story. Mill Arcega narrates.

Venturi Wind Turbine Practical Application

February 20th, 2010 admin Posted in Tech 7 Comments »

bigdbez asked:

The twin rotor venturi turbine charges 12 volt batteries on my dog kennel. The batteries power lights and a 400 watt inverter. The turbine is mounted to the mast that use to support the wires from the grid.
The turbine demonstrates the ability to supply green energy in an urban enviroment. There is very little noise from the machine and it does not require guy wires to support the unit. A turbine like this could power a garden shed or garden lighting.
