Windmill/Wind Turbine Explosion

Kourinsu asked:

The braking mechanism that limits the speed of the wind turbine broke during a storm in Denmark. This was the outcome. 02/22-2008.

Bonus info:

-The tower of the mill was 60m high
-Wind speed was probably around 30 m/s
-You can see a truck at the base of the mill, but nobody was hurt. The mill had been evacuated 400m in each direction.

    Von wegen harmlose alternative Energiequellen

  2. if you read the more info discription it tells you that the brakes that regulate the speed of the blades had failed so the blades just got faster and faster until boom

  3. Why did it “explode” like that and why did the peaces fall to the ground almost vertical, although there was a real badass storm going on?

  4. wats a piece of string got ta do wit nytin?? retard?

  5. boah is das krank ey :-O

  6. how long is a peice of string

  7. does anyone know roughly how many Gs the blade tips would be producing?

  8. so basically you mean we should use biomass instead of wind technology? why not just say that?

  9. When i saw it Explode I was like Oh **** *** ho are these things gonna save our Energy Crisis???

  10. i guess wind isn’t a problem.

  11. explosion? where?

  12. 1-2 mio $ each in that size (guessing)- and that’s even a relative small one !

  13. No, it’s not ! :-)

It was in the news here.

  14. lol you silly billy

  15. Good thing it was insured.

  16. fake you idiots

  17. fucking wicked

  18. I seen this one on tv. They said the brakes on it were gone so it had no control. thus it became unsteady, hit its self tor a blade off and set the rest in play.

yeah… and how did that happen

  20. i’m pretty sure wind turbines have an auto shutoff when the wind speeds are too high. The shut off on this one obviously wasn’t working properly.

  21. It decreases efficiency and dramatically increases the cost per kWh generated. If you make a turbine with a diameter of 1 m instead of 100 m, the power decreases 10 000 times. Smaller efficiency of the little generator would reduce it even more. It’s very uneconomical and looks terrible.

  22. A fine example of why we need to make smaller units more focused to ‘individual’ usage.

  23. dang… how much do those things cost???
