with nuclear you have too still decomission the waste product wind you have a lot of down sides too but would you like a 1. wind turbine in your back yard 2.Nuclear power plant in yourback yard or 3. A cell phone tower sending off radio waves you sleep on that and think green you still will wake up and talk on a cell phone hit a coffee pot that runs on what ?

The problem with nuclear is it requires superlative management skills. Unfortunately, as time progresses, managers become dumber, stupider, and more retarded with each passing paycheck. This is basic Dilbert principle. Ultimately, it’s what led to Chernobyl disaster and 3-mile island.
Instead, use geothermal/volcanic power. Effectively infinite power for 1000 years+, low man-count, extremely automation friendly, so no managers. Hence, no accidents.

Wind power is safer than nuclear, but it it’s not consistent and can’t generate the amount of power that we need. Nuclear can. Nuclear is also much, much safer and cleaner than you think.

The cost of the magnets required to levitate such a huge device would be in the 100s of millions of dollars.

very very very loud…

Nuclear is a grenade that ready to blow in our hand. I’d prefer not to handle that thing. You know that wind energy much more safer and greener than nuclear for sure.

wind energy is absolutely safer and 100% greener than nuclear. You know it my friend.

Nuclear is 100% green. Its just that we as a human see consequences that impair us.

Sold.

so what is the ratio of material/power output on this baby? looks ridiculously huge
February 14th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
Like to buy one Well a smaller size.

Awesome. Every metropol need this kind of green solutions. Not NUCLEAR ****!!!

oh i see… it just dawned on me XD…

No it wont, because this is a symetrical cylinder with fan blades identically aranged at such an angle that regardless what the wind vector is, the rotor will always spin in one and only one direction. This is the beauty of this design.
February 22nd, 2009 at 5:49 pm
the idea i was getting at is the turbine is spinning one direction really* fast and then the wind comes from another angle….the turbine then has to abort the generating energy its getting at the time to slow down and change the direction in which the turbine is spinning one way to the other…..i get your point but yeah it will affect something right?

“…and what if suddenly the wind changes like it is so likely to do?”
The Maglev has a rotating surface that catches the winds from a degree of 360. So changing winds will not affect it.

waw. I think this is the biggest generator ever meeted. generating more than a nuclear reactor.
February 25th, 2009 at 7:17 am
of course…its not fully developed…and what if suddenly the wind changes like it is so likely to do? then it slows down and stops producing energy…better to keep the fan look

When do we see one build?

Very nice design. This system design would have several advantages over the standard, conventional bladed turbine systems. Low maintenance, long working life. The design kind of reminds me of the shape and size of a water tower that is located near the downtown area of the city where I live.

It is worth considering the advantages of decentralised micro-generation in addition to solutions like the Maglev turbines .. ps pls note vertical turbines are recomendid for sustainable infrastructure designs … well done guys that your solutions are brilliant.
