Many researchers believe that harnessing the power of the atom in fission reactions is the most significant alternative energy resource that we have, for the fact of the immense power that it can generate.
Nuclear power plants are very clean-burning and their efficiency is rather staggering. Nuclear power is generated at 80% efficiency, meaning that the energy produced by the fission reactions is almost equal to the energy put into producing the fission reactions in the first place. There is not a lot of waste material generated by nuclear fission although, due to the fact that there is no such thing as creating energy without also creating some measure of waste, there is some.
The concerns of people such as environmentalists with regards to using nuclear power as an alternative energy source center around this waste, which is radioactive gases which have to be contained.
The radiation from these gases lasts for an extraordinarily long time, so it can never be released once contained and stored. However, the volume of this waste gas produced by the nuclear power plants is small in comparison to how much NOx (nitrous oxide that is, air pollution) is caused by one day’s worth of rush-hour traffic in Los Angeles.
While the radiation is certainly the more deadly by far of the two waste materials, the radiation is also by far the easier of the two to contain and store. In spite of the concerns of the environmentalists, nuclear power is actually environmentally friendly alternative energy, and the risk of the contained radiation getting out is actually quite low. With a relatively low volume of waste material produced, it should not be a difficult thing at all for storage and disposal solutions for the long term to be developed as technology advances.
The splitting of an atom releases energy in the forms of both heat and light. Atomic power plants control the fission reactions so that they don’t result in the devastating explosions that are brought forth in atomic and hydrogen bombs. There is no chance of an atomic power plant exploding like a nuclear bomb, as the specialized conditions and the pure Plutonium used to unleash an atomic bomb’s vicious force simply don’t exist inside a nuclear power plant.
The risk of a meltdown is very low. Although this latter event has happened a couple of times, when one considers that there are over 430 nuclear reactors spread out across 33 nations, and that nuclear reactors have been in use since the early 1950s, these are rare occurrences, and the events of that nature which have taken place were the fault of outdated materials which should have been properly kept up.
Indeed, if nuclear energy could become a more widely accepted form of alternative energy, there would be little question of their upkeep being maintained. Currently, six states in America generate more than half of all their electrical energy needs through nuclear power, and the media are not filled with gruesome horror stories of the power plants constantly having problems.

Ernesto Maitim asked:

These are the kind of lighting that has solar panels in them to collect the energy coming from the sun and then converts it to electricity. Such power is stored on reliable rechargeable solar battery. While solar powered lights can last giving off illumination up to ten hours, it should be noted that the brightness is at its fullest on the first few hours, then as the hours progress slowly fades until it runs totally of power. Still, if one is able to fully charge the batteries by letting them be exposed to sun shine for a long 8 hours, then you can be assured of more or less 8 hours of bright illumination. These solar outdoor lights possess built-in sensors that make them turn off automatically at the start of the day and then lights up during nighttime. As we all know that solar powered lights use clean alternative power from the sun, there is indeed something noble about us using these kinds of lighting in our garden. This means we are truly concerned about our environment by not using the conventional form of power or electricity. Energy from the sun is renewable environment friendly power, which means no dangerous pollutants are emitted. The only downside of solar powered lights is that they still have to show improvement when it comes to the intensity of the brightness of their illumination. They can be bright, but not as bright as the ordinary light bulbs that burn via electrical power. However, it is certain that with the continuous evolution of the solar technology, in no time will we see improvement of the solar lights on this regard. For now, the outdoor solar lights, especially of low wattage are excellent for lighting and accentuating the landscape of the garden.
Pattrick Savarna asked:

A solar power generator uses solar energy to convert it into electrical energy in order to run the household appliances. Nowadays, one can easily see TVs, washing machines etc being powered by a solar power generator.

It is termed as “green generator” as it is a proven source of energy which adds nothing to the global warming and the atmospheric pollution. Rather it helps a lot to save the natural energy sources such as petroleum which are on the way of going extinct.

It is emerging as one of most reliable eco-friendly power generating devices. Its total inability to produce air-polluting smoke and irritating sound as other oil run generators do makes it special.A solar power generator is one of the best answers to the shortage of electricity.

A well optimized solar power generator helps a lot to minimize the soaring electricity bill as it is capable of running almost all the appliances merely using the free and unbound solar energy.

Moreover, this device is very user-friendly and needs least efforts while its installation. It is widely used in the countrysides and at those places where people face regular power crisis.

Like all other power generators, it too runs on a definite mechanism. The solar energy is concentrated on the solar panels only to produce DC ( direct current). Then this DC is converted into AC ( alternating current) using the solar inverter already present in the generator itself.

Apart from these two components, the third important components of a solar power generator are its rechargeable batteries. These batteries constantly keep receiving power from the inverter in order to run all the appliances.

The strength and efficiency of a solar power generator depends completely on how powerful its inverter is. It is the most important part of the generator as it has the capability to convert DC into AC. While buying an inverter, it is advisable to buy one which can produce a bit more energy than the actual demand of the home appliances.

In many homes it happens that there is hardly any appliance which is run buy AC. Thus those homes don’t need solar power generators with any inverters, apart from devices like DC input systems and DC meters.

Kozsun Huseyin asked:

For many years man has utilized the raw products of Earth, which even though are part of Earth, the fossil fuels and gases being burnt, turns the Earth into a planet that looked like when it was uninhabitable for life as we know it. As we have entered the new millennium, a few of us, you and me, have looked for better ways.

Is it really possible to achieve all this with solar energy? I mean, imagine, imagine leaving your lights on constantly, and it does no harm to the world or your pocket!

You get your electricity bill, and get shocked that it is so high! There must be a better way! Wouldn’t it be great if you could never see that electricity bill again, and still have power? What about leaving your lights on all the time, and it does no harm to your pocket or the environment?

The question really comes, is solar energy any good? Can solar energy really light your home, and give you all the energy you need to run your home? There are a lot of questions with solar energy; after all it is a technology not being grasped by many. However, more and more people are looking to solar energy to power the home.

One thing to keep in mind is that solar energy is not cheap. You need the solar panels, and some other equipment. Having solar energy also requires having a certain amount of light, so Alaska may not be the best place to install solar panels!

Having solar energy is much better then you might think. Even though the initial costs are high, some of the benefits of having solar energy to power your home is:

* Free electricity

* Cost of solar energy systems gets cheaper

* Zero emissions to the environment

* If everyone had solar energy, we would do major positive impact on our planets health

Homes which are constantly getting brownouts and blackouts can benefit from solar energy. You may be able to earn money, by selling your excess power to other homes or the electricity companies. And if you don’t have enough power at the times of the year when there is not much sun light, you can get extra electricity from electricity companies, and your costs would be much lower.

Using your solar energy in your home over time has many benefits. Each year, each month, and each day more you use solar energy, you get to the point when you are actually getting into profit by having solar energy. The tax breaks can also be phenomenal, making solar energy an added advantage.
