Many people who take jobs in the alternative energies research and development sector have to, at least in the beginning, take relatively low pay. Taking a job in this industry is thus not about-or, not predominantly about-making money, although that is needless to say important, as one who is not well-fed soon becomes one who is not productive at work, especially when we are considering the brain-work involved in the work of researching and developing technologies in the alternative energies sector. There are those who take a job just because they find it is a fulfilling task that they have undertaken-something that is going to help mankind, or their society, or the Earth herself. But in truth, what most people dream of in terms of work is a position that they at once enjoy immensely while they also are receiving good money for their time and energy. Positions in the alternative energy research and development industry often offer just such an opportunity. The alternative energy field is in need of a vast array of different positions. Many people who get into this are the kind who would keep the power plants up and running (these include plant operators or mechanics), others are the developers of new alternative energies (engineers, scientists), and others make it all happen to start with by investing in alternative energy. So–not only do these people have the blessing of an exciting and fulfilling career, but these same people are making the world a better place. The business of alternative energy is rapidly growing due to the fact that many governments are now supporting it. Investors have become excited about putting their financial backing into the alternative energy industry because they can see that it’s the wave of the future, out of both need and the fact of government support. Rising oil prices make alternative energies’ tantalization rise in the minds of investors. As investors become more interested, there is more money available for companies to start up or expand, and that leads (of course) to more job opportunities. The US government is unquestionably involved in promoting the idea of new jobs as being readily available in the alternative energy sector. According to the President, in order to achieve greater use of “homegrown”, renewable fuels in the United States, advanced technologies need to be researched and developed so as to be able to make ethanol from plant fibers’ biomass, which at the present time is merely discarded as waste material. The President’s 2007 Federal Budget includes $150 million (a $59 million increase over the Federal Budget for 2006) to help with the development of biofuels derived from agricultural waste products such as wood chips, corn stalks, and switch grass. Researchers tell us that furthering the cause of research into cellulose-based ethanol could make the technology cost-competitive by 2012, while potentially displacing up to 30% of the nation’s current fuel consumption. The President’s plan would additionally drive on next-generation research and development of battery technology for hybrid vehicles in addition to “plug-in hybrid” vehicles. A “plug-in” hybrid runs on either gasoline or electricity, depending upon an on-board computer calculation. Driving in a city setting consumes almost no gasoline over as much as a week’s time with these vehicles.

Geothermal power has a lot of potential when it comes to alternative energy, and much should be done to produce geothermal energy technologies. It taps into the Earth’s natural energy sources and there is a vast amount of power to be found below the surface crust of the Earth, if we only learn to tap into and harness it for use as energy.
The Earth’s cores reaches a temperature that is 60 times greater than water when it is boiled. This heat is so tremendous in creating pressures just 2 miles below the Earth, so have energy in huge amounts. During a volcanic eruption we can witness superheated fluis as magma, a form which allows us to see the energy and power, just waiting for us to tap in. These fluids can also be seen as steam as it trickles to the surface via vents. By man made vents, we could contain the magma in chambers specially created so that it could be converted into electricity, for all our heating and lighting needs at home. Geothermal power plants are a good creation for where a good supply of this magma, or this heated fluid can be found. Pipes can be fitted down to the source, and the fluids then forced up to the surface to produce the steam which is needed. The steam would work a turbine to generate electricity.
There is a lot of criticism in tapping into the geothemal energy which prevents it being implemented on a much wider scale. It is much too expensive and time consuming to look into studying and researching a resourceful area, and then an even greater expense for building a geothermal power plant, where there is no guarantee of being able to make a profit. It is not known whether a site would be able to produce enough steam to make it viable or reliable enough to even think about building it. Environmentalists also worry about the possibilities of harmful substantials which could potentially be brought up too.
Geothermal energy does have a lot of wonderful benefits if only the critics were quashed and we went ahead and explored it more. As geothermal energy is one of the Earth’s natural resources, it remains a fact that it would not produce any pollutants, so what better way than to use it. It is energy efficient as the efforts required to set up a site to harness it is minimal, once a suitable location is found, and the plant has been built. Geothermal plants are also smaller than the larger atomic energy facilities, electrical plants and the giant dams, which means there would be less disruption to the environment. This alternative energy means would we rely less and continue to depend on coal and oil. Geothermal energy is endless so we would never run out of supplies. This commodity would not become increasingly expensive as time moves on as it is ever present. This type of energy would be so cheap once the initial costs of set up have been recouped.

Consultants on alternative energies have predicted that shifting from an economy reigned by petroleum fuels to an economy based on alternative fuels will not be that easy. Even so, the amounts of novel technologies that are constantly changing have had a definite impact so far on how we perceive economy to be. For instance, take the example of Germany who gets ten percent of the total amount of energy from wind turbines, solar arrays and other innovative technologies that other states might envy.
More and more corporations are appearing after having received incentive from both government and other institutions to be exempted from tax breaks and incentives; the alternative energy drive has garnered a lot of supporters throughout the time and thus, it could even become a wider scale movement. We now need to focus our needs on becoming as much energy efficient as possible because this is how alternative energies will stand a chance against traditional fuels.
Consultants who specialize in alternative energy resources have also pointed out the fact that a lot of growing effort is required so that we can make the idea of switching completely too alternative energies a reality. This at the time is almost too expensive and one can even argue that using fossil fuels on an increased basis only makes the matters worse. The environment is polluted, the atmosphere gets more and more inappropriate for living and thus, a general feeling of disaster is perpetuated. Therefore, it would be best to find a way to be ninety percent independent from fossil fuels. This can be done by reducing that thirst for oil and finding some way to minimize the consumption in order to increase the consumption for alternative energies.
An issue that pertains to this transition would be, according to consultant that oil prices and rising gas prices induce a larger amount of money in the economy, and thus one can benefit from this stimulation of the economy. Also, the analysts believe that because of the financial prowess of multinational companies, these companies are able to hire staggering numbers of staff and contractors and thus, enjoy from a lot of mobility on the market, especially on Wall Street. The green energy is not seen as green after all, because it doesn’t help stimulate too much the economy. The green energy is not that marketplace friendly meaning that one needs to make it more attractive and appealing to investors if we want to really dominate the market with the green revolution.
Therefore, it is imperative that governments move in and do something so that other companies, not just multinational ones, can benefit from this stimulation. There is a lot of resistance going on at the moment in the economy and thus, economists and consultants have pointed out to the fact that we need to already possess the weapons with which we can revigorate an ailing economy and not just expect it to run smoothly from the very beginning.
It has become extremely important for big nations across the whole world, such as the US, Western Europe or Japan to be able to concentrate their efforts into doing what they are expected to. Fossil fuel dependence is a thing that needs to be carefully considered and poorer and less powerful nations also need to get involved into this movement as much as they can if they want to achieve the required levels of energy . When they will be fully capable of making their energy consumption smaller and more efficient, then they will be able to overcome difficulties and make sure they don’t lag up behind larger and more powerful countries in an infinite way.

If you have ever spent much time with kids, you know that life is one big question and answer session. With all the topics they are always bringing up, there is no better one to introduce than the topic of our world and how to improve it. A parent could take questions about the sun and turn them into answers about solar energy.

Helping your kids understand alternative energy is very valuable.

Alternative energy is energy that does not use oil. Using natural sources such as the sun, air, water, the heat of the earth and waste products, energy can be created that is safer and less pollutive and renewable.

If children already know what the elements that form the basis of alternative energy are, you can take this information and show them how these things are used to make energy. How do we do this?

Some suggestions are:

When you talk about the sun, you can discuss how power can be derived from the sun using solar panels, that the heat from the sun is stored in panels and then converted to electricity to be used in our homes.

Besides instilling the concept of water safely in children, you can use any discussion about water to explain how it is used to create energy. Children can understand tides, waves and dams; you can explain how each of these can be used to create electricity. If you want to go further, you can discuss how water passes over turbines to create power, how generators store this energy, and how electricity is created. Once they understand this, you can show them how this concept works with tides and waves as well.

When you are explaining to your children how important air is for breathing, you can also explain how it can be converted to power via wind turbines to create safe, clean energy.

Children need to understand the danger of steam so that they do not burn themselves, but you can use this opportunity to explain that steam moves turbines and charges generators that can light our streets and power our appliances.

If you keep the concepts simple, even little children can understand. You can illustrate with items found around your home, show them pictures and even perhaps bring them to a power plant that uses alternative energy. The idea is to get them interested, aware and appreciative of these sources of energy.

Record high prices at American gas pumps and continued trouble-brewing in the Middle East, Nigeria, and other areas of importance to the oil-driven economy have made it clear to Americans that we are in need of developing many new avenues of energy supply and production. In short, we need to reduce our dependency on oil, for it is ultimately finite and, frankly, the cheap sources of oil (not all oil-just the stuff that is cheap to remove from the earth) are running out. Energy consultants and analysts are insistent that cheap oil has “peaked” or is very soon going to peak. What this means for us is an expensive future-unless we can find new sources of powering our mechanized and electronic civilization, new sources which are alternatives to oil. We must also switch to alternative forms of energy because our present forms are too damaging to the atmosphere. While this write does not believe that the global warming trend is much, if at all, sustained by the activities of mankind (in short, it’s a natural cycle and there’s nothing we can do about it except prepare for the effects of it), we certainly do contribute at present to the destruction of the environment and to things like air pollution with our energy sources as they are. Coal is another source of energy that we need to wean ourselves off of-again, it is finite, and it is filthy, and the mining of it is dangerous and environmentally disruptive. We can also explore new, streamlined methods for producing electricity that we presently generate so much of via hydro-power so that we are less disruptive of the environment when we have need of constructing things such as large dams. Developing nations which have turned industrialized in recent decades especially will need the benefits of alternative energy research and development, for they are presently doing much more environmental damage than the United States. The United States, Japan, and some European nations have been implementing studies into and programs for the development of alternative energy sources, and are therefore already leading the way in doing less environmental damage. The developing nations such as China and India need to look to Japan and the West as examples of what research and development to give government backing and private investment currency to. We could also add great robustness to our own economy by being at the forefront of such alternative energy sources development and then marketing the technologies and services to nations like India, China, Brazil, and so on and so forth. Biofuels from things like “supertrees” and soybeans, refined hydroelectric technology, natural gas, hydrogen fuel cells, the further building of atomic energy plants, the continued development of solar energy photovoltaic cells, more research into wind-harnessed power-all of these are viable energy sources that can act as alternatives to the mammoth amounts of oil and coal that we presently are so dependent on for our very lifestyles. The energy of the future is green.

Even with the increase in media attention and advertising lately that’s been dedicated to ‘green living’ and alternative energy, it is still an incredibly confusing path to venture down. Questions about the best brand, style, or model for a particular project, and the difficulty in finding a qualified local professional all hinder the way and can feel similar to searching for a needle in a haystack. In the swell of this expanding industry it seems as though it is ‘every man for himself’ in this new wave of energy awareness.

It was this frustrating scenario that inspired co-founders Kristen and Dwight Bullock to build an eco-friendly, online community that would narrow the gap. While investigating into the purchase of a windmill for a family member they experienced the all-to-common confusion in trying to select the right product and locate a local compatible contractor. In response to this ‘renewable confusion’, the Discover Perfect Energy online community was created. Designed to connect interested consumers with compatible industry professionals, offer the basics in green education this dynamic community assists people from all walks of life to incorporate green initiatives into their lifestyle.

In what Kelly Hart, founder of Green Home Building online, says is “a wonderful and much needed service”, would-be-consumers and intrigued individuals can now visit the Discover Perfect Energy community to post a project, chat with an expert, or request a free consultation to start receiving immediate help from matching professionals.

With the majority of the time, searching and headache taken out of the ‘going green’ process thanks to the Discover Perfect Energy community, there is one less excuse and one more reason to rethink alternative energy.

Alternative Energy on Coast to Coast AM Date: 09-28-09 Host: George Noory Guests: David Blume, Daryl Hannah Ecological biologist David Blume and actress/activist Daryl Hannah talked about renewable energy and gasoline alternatives such as alcohol. There’s a surplus of corn that could be converted into fuel, and in states like Wisconsin where alcohol competes with gasoline at the pumps, the price for gas is much lower than it is in California, he said. Hannah noted that cactus can actually be converted into fuel, and recommended the Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance as a further resource.
