My woamn and I have a bunch of pinwheels and windchimes around my house. I am thinking about building a vertal axis turbin and couple it directly to a car alternator and have it power some headlights. I used car alternators as my generators and ran the wiring from the alternators through a power inverter available at your local wal-mart. The inverter converts the electricity from 12-volt automotive current into standard household current. Then I ran household 3-wire from the inverter into my fuse box You just have to remember to shut that fuse off if you want to do any work on your household wiring :) I have a similar setup on my house.
