Does it seem that people focusing on alternate energy don’t look at a cost-benefit comparison?

There is a lot of talk about getting off of dependence on oil. Though gas prices are going up, it is still not as expensive as what is payed in Europe. But, alternate energies come at a cost, too. Electric cars would save all sorts of gas, great. But we aren't building any more power plants - no one wants one by them. So, limited amount of electricity means more outages and higher bills. How much will the increased electric bill be vs the higher gas bills?
Ethanol...less CO2 emissions, yeah (of course nitrogen based emissions are higher..and worse for the environment). As people are just discovering, there is only so much farmland. Every acre of farmland used for ethanol is one less for food (can we say food shortages or higher prices). Not to mention, how much energy is used creating the ethanol?
I am not saying that we shouldn't try to have alternatives. I am saying people need to take off the rose-colored glasses and make a realistic comparison.

4 Reliable Suppliers Of Alternative Energy

1. Amelot Holdings is a US based company specializing in development of ethanol and biodiesel plants. It establishes relationships between the researchers and suppliers of alternative energy. 3. Intrepid Technology and Resources Incorporated (ITR) processes animal waste into natural gas as an alternative energy resource. America's supply of natural gas is depleting. ITR believes that the two billion ton animal waste produced every year can be used to generate natural gas to tide over the deficit. Their 'organic waste digesters' built close to the sites of the organic waste, produce clean methane gas which is a viable option to natural gas. The company is based in Idaho but plans to expand its operations to the whole country.
4. Nathaniel Energy generates energy from waste matter. The company has devised s system known as Total Value Preservation System (TVPS) which sees the potential of waste materials to generate energy. Industrial waste matter which would have otherwise been discarded or destroyed is being put to optimum use to recover the trapped energy. The governments of the various countries need to co-operate in terms of exchange of ideas and information to solve the problems of global warming and environmental pollution. Alternative energy suppliers like the above mentioned companies can play a major role in this process and the government can promote these companies by providing them subsidies.

Will my body use protein to build muscle or will it convert it to energy?

Ok so Im just about done with my fat burning process. I used to eat 1200 calories a day and do cardio every single day. Thats over now.

I now have decided to eat 1800 calories a day, and instead of cardio every day. I will alternate heavy (and i mean heavy) weight training and cardio.

My question is this. Say I eat uhhhhh 150% daily value of protein each day. Yet my 1800 calorie diet is well below what I am consuming every day (I caclulated about 2,400 daily at www.caloriesperhour). Will my body take that protein and use it for energy? Or will it use some for energy and some to build/repair muscle tissue that was worn out due to the heavy work outs?

Alternate ways to harness the energy from sun light?

I'm about to build a homemade power source and was considering solar cells and fans (air), anyway.

Solar cells are expensive and don't really generate that much power. The area will be about 30 cm2. I've seen that It's possible to build your own solar cells but they generate very little electricity.

So what can I use instead of solar cells (for sun light or uv rays)? Is there some way to create more powerful solar cells at home instead of buying? How?

P.s. this is for a project in school, so I need cheap and effective solutions.
