Will my body use protein to build muscle or will it convert it to energy?

March 11th, 2010 admin Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

Ok so Im just about done with my fat burning process. I used to eat 1200 calories a day and do cardio every single day. Thats over now.

I now have decided to eat 1800 calories a day, and instead of cardio every day. I will alternate heavy (and i mean heavy) weight training and cardio.

My question is this. Say I eat uhhhhh 150% daily value of protein each day. Yet my 1800 calorie diet is well below what I am consuming every day (I caclulated about 2,400 daily at www.caloriesperhour). Will my body take that protein and use it for energy? Or will it use some for energy and some to build/repair muscle tissue that was worn out due to the heavy work outs?

Thank you.
ok someone asked about my body fat composition.

Its really hard to tell, Im not very bulky, don't have a ton of fat either.

I am 6 foot tall and I weigh 160 pounds.

e2 energy — Coal & Nuclear: Problem or Solution? podcast

March 10th, 2010 admin Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

This is the fifth in a series of video podcasts for the PBS series e2 energy. Each podcast takes you beyond the episodes and deeper into the world of alternative energy. This podcast explores a process called "carbon sequestration" which may one day allow the United States and other countries to burn abundant coal reserves without emitting greenhouse gases. But the technology is far from complete, and some skeptics question its ability to effectively capture carbon dioxide. Learn more about the carbon capture process from leading researchers in the field. e2 is an ongoing documentary series about the economies of being environmentally conscious. Visit www.pbs.org or www.e2-series.com for additional information.

Alternate ways to harness the energy from sun light?

March 10th, 2010 admin Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

I'm about to build a homemade power source and was considering solar cells and fans (air), anyway.

Solar cells are expensive and don't really generate that much power. The area will be about 30 cm2. I've seen that It's possible to build your own solar cells but they generate very little electricity.

So what can I use instead of solar cells (for sun light or uv rays)? Is there some way to create more powerful solar cells at home instead of buying? How?

P.s. this is for a project in school, so I need cheap and effective solutions.

Thanks!

Can someone help me understand this statement about Solar Energy?

March 9th, 2010 admin Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

So I'm reading this article on Wikipedia about Solar Energy. I have to do this project about biofuels, and solar energy is one of them. It says:

"Solar technologies are broadly characterized as either passive or active depending on the way they capture, convert and distribute sunlight. Active solar techniques use photovoltaic panels, pumps, and fans to convert sunlight into useful outputs. Passive solar techniques include selecting materials with favorable thermal properties, designing spaces that naturally circulate air, and referencing the position of a building to the Sun. Active solar technologies increase the supply of energy and are considered supply side technologies, while passive solar technologies reduce the need for alternate resources and are generally considered demand side technologies."

I don't understand what they mean. Do active thinger-majiggers move toward the sun, and passive ones just sit there and absorb the sunlight?

Energy War (IJsbrand van Veelen, VPRO 2006)

March 9th, 2010 admin Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Forget the axis of evil, its the axis of oil The Cold War and the War on Terror were about ideology and globalization. The 21st century will be dominated by the struggle for energy: It will be every man for himself and it's going to get dirty. In the two-part documentary Energy War, vpro's Backlight investigates the major developments with regards to energy sources. Featuring NY Times columnist Thomas Friedman. The film describes the geopolitical consequences of the dependency on fossil fuels. In the struggle for the last sources of fossil fuels, countries all over the world are forced to take new political and moral decisions and have to enter into awkward alliances: rogue regimes must be tolerated and befriended. With a special focus on the gas conflict between Georgia and Russia and the position of Saudi Arabia. Featuring ao Thomas Friedman, author of international bestseller The World is Flat. Friedman sheds his light on the inverse connection between rising oil prices and the establishment of free democracies. The film then moves on to take a look at the international markets for alternative energy. If oil and gas are scarce and expensive in the future, where will countries turn to keep their economy going and their population warm and happy? Could solar energy or bio fuels become the main energy sources of the post-fossil fuel era? Will governments, multinationals or small producers be the motor of the green race?
